FROM LUNCHTIME WHACKERS TO GOING CRACKERS

-

WELL guys, what a difference a year makes. It’s incredible to think that this time last year we were enjoying some gorgeous sunshine, the busiest The Big One show in history had just passed and we were all out catching heaps of carp.

While the sunshine is still here – perhaps making our current predicament that bit more frustrating – Covid-19 has put paid to everything else.

One thing that has been encouraging, is the united front angling as a whole has put up against this pandemic. Not only are numbers of anglers themselves fighting on the frontline for the NHS, but others are still doing their best to protect our waters from poachers and predation.

Tackle and bait companies should also be praised for their response, with most providing free content and challenges almost daily, to ensure people stay entertained at home.

Not being able to go fishing has certainly made me realise a few things. The biggest thing will be to make the most of our fantastic sport when we do get it back.

A lot of us, myself included, are quick to make excuses for why we can’t get out, when really, we all know, you only need an hour on the bank to get your fishing fix.

This time last year, I was using my lunch hour at work to head to a local lake for a spot of floater fishing. I managed to catch some lovely fish in that short hour, when I could have quite easily written it off as ‘not enough time’.

Now, while I’m sat playing Dovetail Games’ Fish Sim World to get my fishing fix, I’d give anything for that hour by the lake. So, when we can go fishing again, grab that rod and make the most of it!
