Vary what you use on the hook – maggots, casters or expanders – and you’ll get a bite a chuck when conditions are right, with carp, F1s, ide, tench and bream all likely to show up at some point. A little-and-often feeding approach is best, trickling freebies in by hand or a small cup attached to the end of your pole.
