THE River Severn is without question one of the best venues in the country, particularly if you’re a barbel angler such as Steve Bull, who had a great start to his season.
Using traditional tactics with hemp and caster in the feeder and double caster on the hook, he had a few small chub and perch before the barbel moved in. “The tip walloped round and I had to save the rod from going in the drink,” Steve says. “After a great battle a 6lb 8oz barbel was in the net. Happy days!”
