Six attractive lakes at Wyreside offer everything from silverfish to specimen carp.

What’s been out? The day-ticket carp lakes, Sunnyside 1 and 2, as well as Foxes, have seen plenty of carp over 20lb mark including a

31lb 7oz common. On River Lake, anglers are catching tench, bream and quality roach.

Tactics to use: For the larger carp, fish pop-ups. Fish are also caught in the margins and off the surface. The waggler scores well on River Lake, with casters fished over groundbait. Contact: 01524 792093

Set in around 50 acres, Westlands has six lakes to cater for all anglers. What’s been out? Roach and quality skimmers are being caught from Canal Pool, while good carp are coming out of the larger lakes. Tactics to use: For plenty of bites, fish the short pole with maggot. Keep the bait going in and fish through the water. For larger carp, try PVA bags and wafters.

NEW JUNCTION CANAL, BARNBY DUN, S YORKSHIRE

One of the finest natural venues in the country, the canal is in fantastic form for both small and large fish. What’s been out? Everything from big old bream to large nets of roach and pommies are being caught at this remote venue, where you have a vast stretch of water to go at. Tactics to use: On a canal around 30m wide you can catch well on the feeder to the far bank. Alternativ­ely, pole fish 14m out with chopped worm and caster for quality bream.
