BROWN EDGES IT BY A SINGLE FISH IN GLEBE THRILLER

-

FOR a big-weight fishery such as the Glebe, the latest Golden Reel qualifier turned out to be a tight finish that saw just 7lb separate first and second.

Fished by a capacity 100 anglers in midweek across nine lakes at the Leicestershire complex, it was Maver/ Evolved Baits man Sam Brown who took his place in the final with a 220-1-0 haul of carp to double figures.

That saw him just one fish clear of second-placed Simon Skelton on 213-10-0. Sam drew peg 85 on Lake 5, where he fished short with pellet and then long at 14.5m. His match was rounded off with maggot and groundbait in the margins, although a slow final hour left him nervous.

Dynamite Baits-backed Simon also plundered the margins with maggot, this time at nearby peg 83, to bank some big carp. He does, however, have the consolation of a place in the event’s semi-final match where a place in the final is up for grabs to the winner. RESULT: 1 S Brown, Maver/Evolved Baits, 220-1-0;

2 S Skelton, Dynamite Baits, 213-10-0; 3 J Dunworth, Advanced Angling Solutions, 210-14-0; 4 T Coates, T&N Floats/Matrix Halifax, 200-14-0; 5 R Taylor, Guru/Mainline Match, 193-15-0; 6 Z Brown, Preston Innovations, 169-14-0.
