DRENNAN CUP Specimen fish of the week
2020 - 2021 SEASON
MATT’S MAGIC MORNING
A MORNING spent targeting crucians ended in the best fashion for Matt Fernandez when he slipped his net under a 4lb 3oz pb. It was the pick of the bunch for the Southampton specialist, who also landed six other crucians over 3lb during his visit to Johnsons Lake in Surrey.
He told us: “The 4lb 3oz fish beat my previous best by 1oz and I drove home a very happy angler indeed!”
BIG RUDD IS WORTH ALL THE PAIN!
ENDURING nettle stings, cuts and wet feet was worth it for Simon Irvine, who lured this 3lb 2oz rudd from a snaggy swim. The 46-year-old from Cambridgeshire spotted a shoal of big fish hugging a reedbed on a Fenland river and waded through nearbank foliage to make a cast. The giant rudd devoured his floatfished breadflake at the very first time of asking.
PERSEVERANCE PAYS OFF IN STYLE
IAN WYNTER’S quest for a giant summer barbel finally came to fruition during his latest trip, with the capture of this 17lb giant. The London angler had been fishing his local stretch of the Thames every week since June 16 without a lot to show for his efforts. But a free-running boilie rig cast towards showing fish halfway through an evening session changed all that.
LONG WAIT FOR TRENT GIANT
PATIENCE proved to be the key factor in the capture of this personal-best 7lb 12oz River Trent chub.
It fell to the rod of East Yorks all-rounder Colin Hebb, who’d baited a nearbank overhanging tree with Nutrabaits River Plus boilies at 2pm but had to wait until 9.30pm for the bite. “As soon as I struck into the fish I thought I’d hooked a barbel, so I was shocked to see a chub!” he tells us.
