There are six episodes in the new Gone Fishing series with the first due to air on BBC2 on Sunday August 23 at 8.30pm. Here’s a rundown of what viewers can expect to see...
EPISODE ONE – SALMON: RIVER TWEED, SCOTLAND
Season three kicks off with Paul and Bob taking a trip to the River Tweed in Scotland where they continue their quest to catch a salmon. As we remember the agonising last-ditch attempt to catch one on the River Tay in series two, this time around Paul is determined to fulfil his promise to help Bob get his first salmon – a rite of passage for any angler. Do they succeed?
EPISODE TWO – PAUL’S CHILDHOOD RIVER: RIVER LEA, HERTFORDSHIRE
Paul takes Bob on a trip down memory lane and back to the River Lea in Hertfordshire, where Paul used to come as a teenager with his mates. They’d catch the train from North London to fish this network of rivers and canals that flow from Hertfordshire into the Thames, and just like when Paul was young, they fish for perch.
EPISODE THREE – PIKE: NORFOLK LAKES
The pair head to Norfolk as they attempt to ensnare a monster pike – something that has eluded them so far. They netted a decent-sized pike in N Ireland, but there are bigger and better still to be caught...
EPISODE FOUR – BROWN TROUT: RIVER TEST, HAMPSHIRE
Paul and Bob return to the river where they first went fishing together after Bob’s heart surgery – the Test in Hampshire. The Test is renowned as the home of fly fishing and the duo arrive during the mayfly hatch – the peak of the trout fishing season.
EPISODE FIVE – CRUCIAN CARP: GREAT SOMERFORD LAKES, WILTSHIRE
In the series’ penultimate episode Paul and Bob go lake fishing in Wiltshire and are up before sunrise to give themselves a fighting chance of catching a crucian – one of the UK’s most shy and elusive species. They will need to employ every ounce of stealth they can muster., will it be enough?
EPISODE SIX – CHUB: RIVER WYE, HEREFORDSHIRE
The sixth and final episode sees Bob and Paul revisit the River Wye in Herefordshire. Last time they were here they fished the Middle Wye for barbel, but this time they head to the spectacular Lower Wye in pursuit of chub.
