STILLWATERS

-

ALDERWOOD PONDS, STEYNING, SUSSEX

Fish to over 5lb have been caught from Island Pond, with ‘threes’ a regular occurrence. A margin attack with floatfished worms or legered prawns on a light running rig is all that’s needed, and just about any peg can produce.

EYE KETTLEBY LAKES, MELTON MOWBRAY, LEICS

Set up on Lake 5 using legered worms to target the overhanging trees, deep margins and aerators. Prawns work well, but the carp love them too, so use maggots and worms. The tree in the corner nearest to Lake 4 has a depth of around 7ft and is a definite hotspot. Contact: 01664 565900

WOODSIDE FISHERY, CLEOBURY MORTIMER, SHROPSHIRE

Island, House and Charlie’s Pools have plenty of 1lb to 2lb stripeys to go at, plus a few fish to over 4lb.

Half a lobworm over chopped worm, maggots and casters on the pole will work. The areas with lily pads and reedbeds are good in the cold. Contact: 01299 271305

TAMAR LAKES, BUDE, CORNWALL

The perch in this 81-acre reservoir continue to pack on weight, with plenty of 2lb-3lb fish reported, along with regular four-pounders and the occasional ‘five’. Prawns in the deeper areas are good, while small lures from one of the venue’s hire boats also work well.

BUTTONHOLE LAKE, WISBECH, CAMBS

Find 4ft of depth close to the bank and feed plenty of casters over worm-section hookbaits and you’ll be in with the chance of a netful of perch. Fish to just over 4lb have been taken, and a well plumbed-up pole rig, with the bait just touching bottom, is a great tactic.

WHITMORE FISHERIES, PRESTON, LANCASHIRE

The venue’s Coliseum and East Canal hold good fish, but for a real specimen give the Club Canal a crack. Target the margins on a float with lobworms and prawns. Fire a stream of red maggots over the top and bites won’t be long in coming. Contact: 01253 836224 Postcode: PR4 3HQ
