18MM BOILIE TEMPTS GIANT GREAT OUSE CHUB

JOE Royffe extended his superb run of form for big River Ouse chub this week when he slipped his net under this pristine 7lb 11oz specimen.

It was a new personal best by 1oz for the Hertfordshire all-rounder, who spent an evening touch-legering 18mm milk protein boilies into a number of likely-looking swims.

PREBAITING KEY TO AVON BARBEL TRIO

TARGETING a new stretch of the Hampshire Avon gave Simon Daley a string of huge barbel to 16lb 3oz. Prebaiting three swims with homemade boilies and fishing them in rotation, he netted his biggest-ever pair of barbel at 13lb 10oz and 15lb 13oz – with a 16lb 3oz giant on his next trip. He said: “I’ve now caught fifteens and sixteens from two separate stretches of the Avon. What a river it is!”

BIG CRUCIAN AFTER LONG DRIVE

A THREE-HOUR drive to a southern stillwater paid off for Joe Coleman when he caught a PB 4lb 3oz crucian. The Norfolk specialist fished Method feeders and fake caster hookbaits. “At 8am on day two a thick band of fog came over the lake,” he said. “Within minutes I’d had my first bite from the 4lb 3oz fish, later backed by up specimens of 3lb 8oz and 3lb 13oz. Result!”

PB SMASHED WITH RIVER TRENT BEAST

DAVE Steptoe smashed his old barbel best with this 18lb 1oz brute from the Trent at Gunthorpe Island. The Nuneaton rod fished boilies and PVA bags over hemp to take seven fish under 10lb on the first night, but just before dawn the next morning he hit into the giant. He said: “After a short fight I landed this beast of a fish, weighed on three sets of scales and witnessed by four people at 18lb 1oz.”
