FISHERY OF THE WEEK Royal Berks Fishery
Enjoy full-throttle action over three lakes
SPORT at a lot of commercials has slowed down a touch in recent weeks, but there’s no sign of an end to the full throttle bagging action at Royal Berkshire Fishery.
This complex on the outskirts of Windsor is home to three waters, each of them a pole and feeder angler’s paradise.
Almost every peg has an island within reach, and casting a baited rig up to this feature is sure to lead to plenty of fish in the net. Attacking the open water, underwater ledges and the margins can be equally effective, and if you switch between these areas you’ll not go long without a bite.
Mixed bag magic
Head to Lakes Two and Three if you want to your elastic stretched by F1s – both waters hold thousands of these running to 2lb apiece. There’s every chance you’ll have your rhythm interrupted by a big carp, though, because mirrors and commons act as very welcome bonus lumps.
Set your stall out on Lake One and you’ll likely experience one of your best silverfish sessions ever. Hundreds of pounds of quality roach and skimmers were stocked into the pool at the start of this year and they are reliable feeders under all conditions.
No matter which of the three pools takes your fancy, the odd surprise could show up at any point during the day. A healthy sprinkling of perch to over 3lb and bream to 5lb also lurk beneath the surface.
Keep it simple
When it comes to making tactical decisions, simple is best. Local expert and former Maver Match This champion Zac Brown has sampled the delights of the venue many times, and he told Angling Times: “Every single peg looks attractive and you’re bound to get plenty of bites, no matter how you decide to tackle yours.
“If you can reach the island with the pole, an expander pellet hookbait over a sprinkling of micros will catch lots of F1s. Use a 0.13mm hooklength to a size 16 hook and you’ll beat even the occasional big carp too.
“A small Method or pellet feeder will do the job on slightly wider pegs.
“Last but not least, regular loosefeeding of maggots or casters will whip the silverfish on Lake One into a frenzy.”
Add a highly regarded café and on-site tackle shop into the mix and it becomes clear why Royal Berkshire Fishery should be on your radar this week. It’s a classy venue you can’t afford to miss.
