FISHERY OF THE WEEK
Enjoy 40lb-plus hauls of redfins to 2lb!
We head to Lawn Farm Fishery where you’ll find loads of silvers...
SILVERS feature at lots of commercials, but very few can compete with the number of species and size of fish on offer at Lawn Farm Fishery.
Four lakes are open for action at the Cambridgeshire complex, and all of them offer top-class silverfish bagging.
Willow is the deepest of the lot, with 38 swims to have a crack at. Big barbel to more than 7lb, bream and tench to 5lb and chub to 4lb can show up at any point, with plenty of double-figure carp also thrown into the mix.
Cherry Tree and Crab Tree Lakes both hold 20 anglers at a time and the roach and chub sport can be stunning. With roach running to 2lb, hauls of 40lb-plus are on the cards.
Honeysuckle is the venue’s snake lake, and while many fish for the mirrors and commons, they’re missing out on some spectacular skimmer sport.
A LEGEND’S ENDORSEMENT
Anglers of all abilities visit the complex and almost every single one of them gives it a big thumbs up. While the top-class fishing is the biggest draw, the plentiful parking and on-site tackle shop give it additional brownie points.
Several high-profile anglers have also sampled the delights and arguably the biggest name in the sport is among those.
“The silverfish sport on offer at Lawn Farm is simply stunning and it is the ideal place to enjoy lots of bites at this time of year,” explained angling legend Bob Nudd.
“I was first invited to give it a try for a magazine feature and while I was told the roach fishing would be good, I never expected what I actually experienced there,” he said.
“I finished the day with more than 30lb of roach, with individual fish over 1lb. It was no one-off either, because catches like this are taken pretty much every day at the venue.”
PICK YOUR APPROACH
The water on which you set out your stall will dictate the way you should fish it. Willow is best suited to the groundbait feeder or long pole. On the pole, feed several balls of groundbait before fishing a worm hookbait over the top.
Cherry Tree and Crab Tree lend themselves short pole, with a regular trickle of maggots or casters sure to get the roach and chub competing close in.
Pellets are the No1 bait for Honeysuckle, with a sprinking of 2mm loosefeed and a 4mm expander hookbait sure to do the business.
Don’t gamble on a carpdominated water this week, give Lawn Farm a go and get stuck into a silver sensation!
