Get yourself ready for some great fishing ahead...

- STEVE FITZPATRICK EDITOR IN CHIEF

AS MUCH as I love a challenge, my local water is in the fields right now and I know I’m on a hiding to nothing in terms of catching anything worth the walk through the snow.

Whilst the scenery is pretty stunning and it’s lovely to be out there after a week at work, it’s not exactly conducive to great catches. However, that hasn’t stopped the army of intrepid anglers who will fish in any conditions in getting their fix.

A pal of mine recently spotted two lads chub fishing on the Nene. Unfortunately they must have got their bearings a bit off as they were actually sat fishing the farm track which runs alongside the river, rather than in the main course itself!

With the amount of extra water in there at the moment though, it was probably an easy mistake to make!

The important thing is to remember that these conditions aren’t going to last forever, and before we know it we’ll be gearing up for a new season, better weather, and bumper catches.

This week we asked our readers what they were looking forward to the most following the winter lockdown.

The responses from many confirmed just what we’ve all been feeling here at Angling Times for a little while now – it will be great just to get out there with some mates again. Dreaming further, early spring mornings in search of tench popped into my head, and those sessions will be upon us after just a couple more flips of the pages of the kitchen calendar.

Just the thought of being on the bank with a couple of mates waiting for the thick top on a bodied waggler to rise from the water, signalling a tench has picked up my bait, is enough to keep me going.

In the meantime, stay safe and get yourself ready for the most hotly anticipated fishing trips for years!
