MATCH OF THE WEEK The inaugural Northern River Masters Final on the River Tees

Skylark, Osprey, Hawk, Swallow & Falcon Lakes (108 pegs)

-

ONCE again, this Drennanbacked three-day extravaganza drew a full house of 108 anglers.

It saw Andy Lumb, the man who came close to winning 12 months ago, go one better to lift the title thanks to a faultless three section wins.

Last year Lowhills AC man Andy missed out by weight after he tied with champion Richard Kinnersley, but there was no danger of that happening this time around. The Yorkshireman reeled off three section wins to leave local rod Gareth Mills in second on four points and Paul Brandrick third as the best of a clutch of anglers on five points.

Andy began in ominous style on day one, winning the whole match with a massive 201-14-0 of F1s and carp from peg 48 on Falcon Lake. He relied on his favourite paste approach, a bait that worked again on day two with 160-12-0 of mainly F1s on the short pole from Osprey Lake peg 21.

Going into the final day, a section win would be needed to give him a great chance of winning, but his peg, 4 on Hawk Lake, isn’t the best on the pool.

However, Andy made light of that, crashing out 157-12-0 of carp and F1s on paste to win the section and the lake.
