Late goal agony as Inveraray exit cup

-

Camanachd Cup second round Beauly 1 Inveraray 0

BEAULY reached the Camanachd Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 1-0 win over Inveraray at Braeview Park.

The task for Inveraray was made no easier with Garry MacPherson and Allan MacDonald serving one-match bans, while Grant Griffin was also out.

Ally Munro came back into the side with David MacPherson lining up at full centre against David MacLean.

Inveraray player/ manager Ruaraidh Graham started in attack and Euan McMurdo returned after an absence, starting on the bench alongside Nicholas Crawford and Fraser Watt.

Beauly had the better of the first half and they should have been ahead at that stage, so the Inveraray players were delighted to reach the half-time break still on level terms.

The Inveraray forward line did, though, look dangerous when they got the ball and this was boosted by the second-half addition of Euan McMurdo.

The visitors’ defence, marshalled by John Kennedy, was defiant, and whenever Beauly did break through, they found young keeper Scott MacLachlan in fine form.

Home goalie Josh Grant made a great save from a long-range shot from Inveraray substitute Nicholas Crawford, and Lewis MacNicol could have scored on more than one occasion but the ball failed to fall kindly for him.

The decisive score came on 79 minutes. Beauly’s Jack MacDonald forced a great save from Scott MacLachlan but Conor Ross, was quickly on to the rebound and scored to make it 1-0.
