The Waverley - still going strong after seven decades

-

THE MAJESTIC paddle steamer Waverley is embarking on her summer tours around the coast of Argyll.

She sails from Tarbert every Wednesday from June 22 until August 24, giving passengers a chance to view the magnificent scenery of Scotland’s longest sea loch, Loch Fyne, as they sail towards Kilfinan Bay.

Sailing from Campbeltown for two days only on July 3, passengers can visit Ireland and spend time ashore in Redbay or perhaps stay on board and cruise the Antrim Coast Then, on August 14, cruise to the Sanda isles and onward towards the Mull of Kintyre. 2016 is a special year for the

Waverley as it marks 70 years since her launch in 1946.

Her first public sailing was not until June 16 1947 as she spent a year in Greenock being fitted out. She still sails

down the Clyde every summer.

Waverley captain Ross Cochrane said: ‘I am proud to be at the helm of this beautiful historic ship in this anniversary year. On a sunny summer’s day, there is nothing better than sailing on Waverley and enjoying some of the best scenery in the world.

‘There are a range of trips to suit everyone, young and old, so bring the family and friends along for a great day out. I look forward to welcoming you on board.’

Waverley has excellent onboard facilities including a restaurant serving hot and cold snacks, two bars, heated lounges and a souvenir shop.
