Fundraiser follows in Rob Roy’s footsteps for charity

-

AN INTREPID and committed Mid Argyll fundraiser recently took on the Rob Roy Challenge for Marie Curie.

Jenny Brolly, a Mid Argyll Fundraising Group for Marie Currie committee member, took on the 16-mile walk and 56-mile cycle on June 18.

Over the last few months she has covered hundreds of miles training and was ‘nervous but excited’ before heading off.

The sun made an ap- pearance and it was an early start as she began at 7.30am in Pitlochry. The walk was definitely more of a hike and was more challenging than some expected.

The route took the competitors from Pitlochry to Kenmore and Jenny arrived in a more than respectable four hours 45 minutes.

Bike ride

For plenty people that would have been enough of a challenge but not Jenny who immediately set off on a 56-mile bike ride. The route went from Kenmore to Tummel Bridge then up around Loch Rannoch and back to Kenmore.

Chuffed

A very relieved and chuffed Jenny crossed the line a little after 6pm, welcomed by friends and family who had travelled to cheer her on.

The total raised for Marie Curie was a staggering £1,455 with donations still being received.

Jenny would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported her through the training, the fund raising and ultimately getting her round the challenge.

Jenny managed to get her make up and hair done just in time for a photo opportunity with Around the World cyclist Mark Beaumont.

Advice

Advice was given on cycling styles and training programmes, which we are sure Mark will use to his benefit on future expeditions.
