Triples angling competition

-

LOCH Fyne Sea Angling Club had a beautiful day to take to the waters of Loch Etive for a triples competition.

This was a self-drive boat event out of Airds Bay with nine anglers taking part. Teams were drawn out of the hat before setting off in brilliant sunshine to stake out their favoured marks north and south of Loch Etive.

Drifting

Conditions were ideal for drifting and some anglers took advantage of this to go inshore for pollack while others chose to anchor in deeper waters.

It was encouraging to see the return of the bigger spurs with not a tiddler in sight.

The loch produced an impressive eight species comprising of spurs, thornies, lesser spotted dogfish, pollack, coalies, cod, ling and whiting.

Steven MacBrayne just missed out on a full house, landing seven out of eight species, an impressive catch in anyone’s book.

Nikki Thompson, Robert MacBrayne and Gordon Law got the bragging rights winning the competition with 204 points between them.

A fair bit behind came Jim Smith, Simon Waters and Willie Shaw with a total of 151 points. Steven MacBrayne, Gary Sinclair and Mick Thompson got a 111 points between them.

In the individual competition Nikki Thompson came first with 142 points, Jim Smith second on 105 points and Steven MacBrayne third on 68 points.
