Money blows in from wind farm
COMMUNITY groups and charities can now apply for money generated by A’ Chruach wind farm.
The farm, owned by Infinis, is expected to generate millions of pounds of community benefit for West Loch Fyne, Dunadd and Lochgilphead. In its first year about £149,000 will be available for community projects and the grants will be distributed by Foundation Scotland.
Infinis head of operations Scott Mackenzie said: ‘The wind farm will not only make an important contribution to the supply of low carbon electricity, but it will also benefit the local community.
‘With a £149,000 community benefit per year to support groups, organisations and projects, we hope A’Chruach wind farm will provide a lasting positive legacy to the area and we look forward to seeing the applications coming through.’
Rachel Searle-Mbullu, head of community investment with Foundation Scotland, said: ‘This particular fund has been on the cards for a long time.
‘The communities are more than ready to seize the opportunity it provides to further develop established activity or help catalyse new services.
‘We appreciate that many groups are themselves led by volunteers so hopefully the straightforward application process will encourage groups to apply.’
There is plenty of time to apply as the closing date is September 9 with decisions being expected in October.
