Easy Club pays music tribute to stalwart David

TRIBUTES were paid to an Easy Club stalwart at its latest music night.

David Douglas had played the temple blocks, a type of percussion instrument, in the band Sanctuary for many years. The band had its beginnings at the Argyll and Bute Hospital.

David died suddenly, leaving the rest of the band shocked and saddened.

For much of their set the temple blocks stood in silent memorial until, at the encouragement of the band, Flora Currie joined in.

The music night, held at Lochgilphead Resource Centre on July 6, kicked off with some lively traditional tunes from the Dalriada Trio.

Sanctuary then took to the stage and began with Hugh Fife reading a poem written about David.

The band played plenty of covers, mostly of David’s favourite songs, which he had enjoyed playing.

David was originally from Campbeltown but lived in Lochgilphead. He will be missed by his band-mates and friends, but most of all by his mum.

As well as being a keen musician, David was often to be seen running along the canal to Ardrishaig.

Kevin Williams was also on hand with his guitar to entertain the audience.

The Easy Club would like to thank its supporters and is making plans for more nights in the resource centre and elsewhere.
