‘Amazing’ Ardrishaig Flower Show
ARDRISHAIG Horticultural Society held its 65th annual show last week, attracting a very healthy entry of fruit, vegetables and crafts.
Alan Green opened the show, which this year featured extra tables courtesy of Ardrishaig Community Trust, allowing exhibits to be spread around the hall.
Mr Green, a former Ardrishaig resident and keen horticulturalist, said: ‘The standard and quality of exhibits is second to none, and the tender loving care given to the exhibits has never lowered in all the years I’ve been here. The standard keeps going up’
He added: ‘I have never seen anything like the home industry section - amazing.’
The horticulture sections - covering fruit and vegetables, cut flowers and pot plants - were judged by Jim Young of Lochgilphead and Oban’s Ronald MacKillop.
Morna Shaw from Ardfern was judge for the colourful floral art classes, while the baking and preserves entries were placed by judge Alison Jones from Ford. Difficult task
School paintings and photographs were judged by Tamsyn Taylor, Lochgilphead, while Ardrishaig’s Maureen Cunningham had the difficult task of adjudicating the ever-popular handicrafts section.
Show president, Neil John MacLean, said: ‘We introduced a new kids’ section, which is a home industry section, and they have been busy knitting.’
He went on to thank his committee, adding: ‘We are looking for new committee members, so the more people the better. We could use more help.’
Mr MacLean continued: ‘I also want to thank the trust fund, which has made life so much easier for us. We were getting too old to lift and carry those old tables so these new ones that they have donated have made a big difference.’
Hugh MacLeod from Benderloch won best in show and second in the horticultural section, taking home two rosettes.
