TWO Inveraray war memorials have won national awards from the Royal British Legion Scotland.

TWO Inveraray war memorials have proved national standard bearers after winning awards from the Royal ritish Legion Scotland. Argyll Caravan ark’s war memorial was named ‘best satellite war memorial with gardens’ by the veterans’ organisation, while the main war memorial in Inveraray won the ‘best small community with gardens’ category bringing two of the seven categories on offer back to the area. Representatives from the Legion Scotland Inveraray branch will receive their trophies, on behalf of all its members, at a ceremony in Edinburgh on riday September . Royal ritish Legion Scotland has run the awards for more than years as part of its remembrance programme.

Ian Campbell, branch chairman, said: ‘I am totally delighted by this news. We have won separately with the memorials on different occasions before, but never together in the same year.

‘It really is gratifying to receive the recognition, but it is all down to the tireless efforts and dedication of the local community. I want to thank our members and everyone else who has contributed and supported our branch since it was restarted nine years ago.

‘The war memorials are a fitting tribute to the local servicemen and women who gave their lives for our country, and it is important that we ensure they are looked after and well kept.’

evin Gray MM, chief executive officer Legion Scotland said: ‘We always get a fantastic response from our local branches, such as Inveraray and Argyll Caravan ark, for the est ept War Memorial campaign, and this year was no different. Remembrance is at the heart of what we do and war memorials are an important aspect of this.’

Mr Campbell added: ‘Our ne t branch meeting is on Saturday September 3 in Skippers istro, Argyll Caravan ark, at 11am, followed by our sponsored Tartan Walk from urnace to Inveraray to raise funds for the branch. It leaves

urnace at pm and all ages are welcome. There is also a shorter walk from Argyll Caravan ark to Inveraray, and sponsor forms are available from Tracy McCulloch or Ian Lindsay.

‘Our annual coffee morning and kids’ bake-off is on Saturday September 6 from 11am- pm in Inveraray arish Church Hall.’
