All that jazz

-

CARTOON music, stunning solos and impressive improvisation – a cool night of jazz in Lochgilphead.

PLAYING to a packed Lochgilphead Drill Hall, two of Scotland’s leading jazz groups entertained locals and visitors after the bonfire and fireworks.

The Dick Lee Septet and the Stu Brown Sextet provided four hours of music that was hard to beat.

A children’s animation workshop to create a short film of cartoon characters resulted in a film that was shown at the evening concert, when Stu Brown’s group played music from cartoons stretching over the past 60 years.

Looney Toons are well known but hearing them ‘in the flesh’ was a truly exciting experience for those old enough to remember the early cartoon characters.

The second half of the evening concert was given by Dick Lee and his Septet. Dick is well known to audiences in Mid Argyll and his admirers had turned out in force. They were not disappointed, with spectacular solos from each of the band members interspersed with impressive spells of improvisation. Much of the music played had been composed or arranged by Dick and made for a most memorable evening.

The final hour was given to a jam session with members from both bands. It was an unforgettable occasion to round off a spectacular weekend.

Saturday’s concert was put on by Mid Argyll Arts Association supported by the Heart of Argyll Tourism Alliance as part of the Ignite celebrations.
