Mid Argyll medals and PBs galore
SWIMMERS from Mid Argyll took home a clutch of medals after last week’s Scottish school trials in Helensburgh.
No fewer than 17 young swimmers from Mid Argyll Dolphins took part in the championships last Wednesday, among a total of 135 competitors from across Argyll and Bute.
The organisers commented that they had never before seen so many swimmers coming from Lochgilphead to take part. Dolphins head coach Arlene Green said: ‘We were just delighted to see so many getting involved.
‘The team, led by captains Lorne Barrie and Ruby Bosomworth, achieved six medals, but all of the Dolphins swam amazingly well – with the team achieving 65 per cent personal best times overall.’
Ruby Bosomworth won silver in the 400m freestyle swim in the 17/19 years age group, in a time of 6:16:12. She secured another silver in the 100m back crawl in 1:35:25.
It was silver, too, for Molly Dykes in the 200m freestyle 15/16 age group, in a time of 3:19:66. Megan Danson won bronze in the 200m freestyle, 13/14 age group, in a time of 2:45:08. Megan also came second and took silver in the 100m breaststroke, in a time of 1:41:84.
In the 100m freestyle, Megan secured a gold medal with a time of 1:13:69 which is also a consideration time for the finals in January 2017.
The swimmers who took part for their schools are: Rhona Love and Logan Allan, both Ardrisaig Primary School; Innes Cameron, Glassary Primary School; Rose MacCallum, Kilmartin Primary School; Ruth Neville, Ardfern Primary School; Iris MacMillan, Tayvallich Primary School; Eileen Barr, Christopher McCartan and Euan Gilmour, all Lochgilphead Primary School; Lorne Barrie, Ruby Bosomworth, Megan Danson, Molly Dykes, Abi and Ellie Gregory, Johnnie Neville and Alfie Smith from Lochgilphead High School.
