Hallowe’en horse fun in the sun at Kilmartin

-

ARGYLL South Pony Club members and friends enjoyed fun in the November sun at the Long Walk arena on Saturday November 5, 2016.

Courtesy of Mr and Mrs John Brailsford, the youngsters competed in their annual Hallowe’en rally.

This year the Witch’s Quest had some new tasks for the young riders, obstacles such as the Prickly Green Door and the Shark-Infested Lagoon, but every year the favourite toe-curling challenge is dipping into the Slime Pit to retrieve the golden medallion.

The 11 tasks on the quest test the youngsters’ balance and dexterity on horseback as well as their ponies’ bravery – and patience.

In the afternoon, juniors and seniors had a great time galloping up and down the arena enjoying the Hallowe’en-themed race games devised by Mrs Sheila MacCallum and her parent helpers. The lunch of soup, followed by home baking, was another memorable part of the day and credit for this goes to Steven Ryan and Ulla Riddell, whose connoisseur sandwiches were swiftly devoured.

All the riders and their ponies had come in fancy dress; with Poppy McClymont and her ghostly skeleton horse and Rebecca Baillie as a fearsome witch with Aero, her equine cat, taking the honours.
