Indoor athletics set for Lochgilphead return
THE MID Argyll area competition in the Argyll series of Sports Hall Athletics will be held on Sunday January 22 in the games hall at Lochgilphead Joint Campus.
This competition is the first of four local area competitions to be held in Argyll between January and March.
The other local competitions at Campbeltown, Oban and Tobermory will be held in February and early March, with the best of the young athletes qualifying for the Argyll Final to be held at Atlantis Leisure in Oban on March 19.
Mid Argyll Athletic Club has been promoting this form of indoor athletics every winter since 1994 using specialist equipment for running, jumping and throwing events.
Anyone planning to enter the Lochgilphead competition is reminded events will start at midday on January 22, with all entries on the day from 11.30am.
The competition caters for six age groups starting from under seven years up to under-17, with seven running, jumping and throwing events.
Everyone taking part will receive a medal and trophies will be awarded to the overall winners in each age group.
An entry fee of £2 per competitor will be levied, or £5 for families of three or more. This is an ideal opportunity for youngsters to try athletics for the first time in a warm, dry environment.
