Lomond Launch Academic Scholarship Programme for 2017 / 2018

Lomond School principal Johanna Urquhart is pleased to announce the launch of a new scholarship programme for the academic year 2017/18. Academic scholarships will be awarded to pupils on the basis of competitive examinations which will be carried out in late January 2017 and applications must be made on or before January 20, 2017. Like all young people attending Lomond School, Lomond scholars will benefit from the excellent systems in place which help pupils to achieve their very best. The continuous support, encouragement and guidance provided by the school’s dedicated teachers and staff team ensures that pupils excelling in their academic studies are nurtured throughout their time at school. Beyond the classroom, Lomond provides many opportunities for young people to explore their interests and talents further. Lomond School pupils enjoy a very wide variety of extra-curricular clubs and sports including hill running, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, TED Ed, engineering, the orchestra and various musical arrangement groups, rugby, hockey, archery and much more. They also have access to life-changing experiences such as the recent trip trekking in Morocco and the forthcoming visit to Tanzania where pupils will work with the Moving Mountains Trust to develop and improve educational facilities and infrastructure in the Ng’aroni community. Principal Urquhart comments: ‘Beyond the help and support our teachers and staff provide, the school itself has a very welcome environment where young people support each other and celebrate each other’s achievements. In many ways this is the backbone of much of our pupils’ success. At a time in their lives when peer acceptance and acknowledgement is so important, the family feel Lomond School has is genuine and pupils really want to see each other succeed.’ Lomond scholars will also benefit from the close relationship the school has with its former pupils through the Lomond School Association. For example: ‘Olympic sailor Charlotte Dobson and sailing champions Anna Burnet and Lorenzo Chiavarini are Lomond School sailing patrons and return to the school to support and inspire our young people.’ The scholarship programme is open to all senior one entrants for 2017. Scholars will typically receive a small reduction in fees and our bursary award scheme can be sought to supplement this. Bursaries are means-tested and applications must be made via our registrar by January 20, 2017.
