Thought for the Week

- With Marilyn Shedden

I WONDER what it is about Argyll that draws people back.

I have met so many people while walking our collies on the beach on even the most ghastly days, who say how much they love this place.

Amid a break in the rain on Sunday, we were just coming off the shore at A’Chleit when we met a young family scrambling over the rocks.

The young mother remarked that she felt this area just filled her soul.

Argyll is scattered with ancient signs of worship and stories of saints.

It is referred to as the ‘cradle of Christianity’.

There are many romantic songs and poems written about Argyll and the islands, and people visit and fall in love with the place. Argyll draws people back. It is a spiritual place and this is felt even by those who don’t profess any particular faith.

This week we were thrilled to get the news of an engagement.

Two young friends are getting married next April. We regard them as our extended family.

They live and work in London now and their families are in Glasgow and Ayr.

They have been to visit as often as they can, for they too love this place.

To our delight, Angela phoned this week to say they want to be married in Kintyre.

I was overjoyed at this as I had thought the ceremony would be in London, but Argyll has drawn them back.

I pray they will always know the blessings and peace of this land throughout their lives and that the sun will rise in joy and set in love on that special day, and every day for them.
