Time to get in tune

- by RACHEL CARRUTHES editor@argyllshireadvertiser.co.uk

PRACTICE makes perfect is the motto of many Mid Argyll musicians as they prepare to perform at Mid Argyll Music Festival.

With songs selected and entry forms submitted, the countdown to the popular event has begun.

Open to all ages and abilities, Mid Argyll Music Festival draws in local and visiting talent for both competitive and non-competitive classes.

Over the years, the festival has expanded and diversified to include dancing, poetry and contemporary songs. I

n its 38th year, the festival will once again include the popular Anything Goes class, in which anything really does go. Soloists and groups of any age can perform their own choice of vocal and/ or instrumental music whether that be pop, folk or classical, or a mime or dance routine.

Following feedback from last year’s festival, the committee has re-instated piping classes to the syllabus, fitting them into a busy programme which already includes the always entertaining primary school action songs, vocal and instrumental solos and ensembles, verse speaking classes and the band competition. Adjudicators this year will be Margaret Tomlinson, speech, and John Foster and Michael Hancock, music.

The festival will run from Monday March 20 until Saturday March 25 and, once again, is set to showcase some of the best talent from Argyll.
