MO-MA gets gift that keeps on giving

-

BACK in December, Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau staff decided to give a special Christmas gift to one local charity.

Staff and volunteers of the Argyll and Bute Citizens Advice Bureau decided to save themselves from handwriting Christmas cards to one another and instead donate the money they would have spent on cards to Moving On – Mid Argyll (MO-MA).

MO-MA was established to help relieve the suffering and distress brought about by poverty. The charity assists in the provision of starter packs (basic household essen- tials) for homeless people moving into a new home and emergency food parcels for Mid Argyll people in need.

On Wednesday February 8, staff and volunteers presented MOMA secretary May Taylor with the belated Christmas gift – a cheque for £185.

Gillian McInnes, bureau manager, explained: ‘We did the same last year and are delighted to have collected even more money this year. We work really closely with MO-MA to help clients and sadly more and more people are finding themselves in urgent need of assistance.

‘We speak to May regularly and she and her colleagues are always willing and able to deliver, often at very short notice, substantial food parcels to us for our clients to pick up.

‘They provide a valuable service to those in need in Mid Argyll and we are very happy to support them.’

David Carruthers, MO-MA convener, said: ‘Thanks to the Citizens Advice staff. This money will go towards new bedding, as part of our starter packs, for those moving into new homes and/or emergency food parcels for those in need.’
