Furnace primary school bowled over by donation
IT WAS smiles all round at Furnace Primary School when pupils and staff received a generous £200 donation from the local bowling club.
Youngsters and their teachers were invited to Furnace Bowling Club on Tuesday February 21 for a special presentation to the school’s parent council.
Bowling club members spent the afternoon teaching the children about indoor bowls and demonstrating to them how it is done, before the pupils had a go.
It was tricky at first trying to find the balance of a strong enough bowl and getting it to go straight, but the pupils were quick on the uptake and soon ready for a friendly game.
Taking a break to present the cheque, Ronnie Dodd of Furnace Bowling Club explained: ‘As a bowling club we recognise the importance of the local primary school in the community and felt that we would like to support some of the extra curricular activities the school provides.
Thank you
‘This sum of money is also a thank you for efforts made by the teaching and support staff but, most importantly, the pupils for all their hard work in learning and working together.’
Norma Jack, of the parent council, said: ‘Thank you very much to the bowling club for the kind donation. We hope to spend it wisely and are grateful for the support.’
Robyn McIlroy, head teacher of Furnace Primary School, added: ‘We are grateful to the bowling club for its support.
‘Community support is incredibly important to a school like ours and we can’t thank the club enough.’
