Heron Valley raises the roof
THE RAFTERS were raised in Tarbert Village Hall as Heron Valley came to town.
Mid Argyll Pipe Band’s annual ceilidh was a fine evening of music and dance, with around 200 people descending on the hall.
And with music by Heron Valley, the dance floor was never empty.
The brilliant young Strachur-based band kept everyone on their toes with the usual traditional ceilidh sets along with their own interpretation of well-known songs.
At the break, Mid Argyll Pipe Band performed, showcasing the different levels of piping throughout its tuition system.
Rod Buchanan’s talented young chanter players and pipers began the performance with a lovely rendition of ‘Somerled’s Legacy’, one of Rod’s own compositions.
From there, six of the band’s new pipers along with Pipe Major Craig Lang took over with the hugely popular ‘Dark Island’ before breaking into an exciting jig.
To finish off, a quartet of senior pipers, along with James Bremner on the cajon, played a fantastic version of ‘Hellbound Train’, cleverly incorporating whistles into the performance.
Dancing
The second half was not long in starting and immediately the floor was packed with dancers and - but for a brief break to draw the raffle - the dancing did not stop all night.
A band spokesperson said: ‘These fundraising events are absolutely essential for the band to compete in competitions and continue to provide free tuition, uniform and travel to band members.’
