Buyers and sellers descend on Dalmally prices up on year

UNITED Auctions held its annual May sale at Dalmally Auction Mart.

A catalogued entry of 447 cattle and 238 sheep from all over Argyll and Bute sold to a packed ringside of buyers from throughout the country on Saturday May 6.

Bullocks sold to an average of £825.10 per head or 271.62 pence per kilo against £802.77 or 250.93 pence per kilo at the correspond­ing sale last year.

Heifers sold to an average of £757.16 per head or 252.02 pence per kilo against £689.08 per head or 229.31 pence per kilo last year.

The top price for bullocks was £1,070 per head from Achnacreeb­eag and 329.3 per kilo from Knockderry. Heifers sold to £990 from Craig Farm whilst Kilvaree led the kilo prices in this section at 342.9 pence.

Breeding cattle from Balantyre sold to £1,070. Blackface hoggets from Woodside Croft, Mull sold to £70. Ewes with lamb at foot sold to £74 from Alavahl.
