Award finals for Port Ellen

AN ISLAY primary school has beaten off stiff competitio­n from across Scotland to be selected as finalists at this year’s Scottish Education Awards.

Port Ellen Primary School has been selected as a finalist for the Sciences, Technologi­es, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s (STEM) Award.

The finalists will be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on Wednesday June 7, when the judges will unveil the winners of each award category.

Sine MacVicar, head teacher at Dunbeg Primary School, will also be attending the final after being shortliste­d for the prestigiou­s Head Teacher of the Year Award. Sine has been widely praised for her 44 years of devotion to Dunbeg Primary School, and the atmosphere she has crafted within the school.
