Jodie jumps to athletics medal double

-

LOCHGILPHEAD athlete Jodie Robertson leaped to victory at the West District Athletics Championships in Kilmarnock.

Jodie, 15, was at the double on Saturday May 13 as she secured a gold and silver medal, proudly flying the flag for the Mid Argyll Athletics Club.

Competing in the under17 age group for the first time, Jodie started the day with the high jump in very rainy conditions. This did not deter Jodie from excelling, however, as she recorded a winning jump of 1.47metres to secure gold. Jodie’s first-time clearance at this height ensured she finished ahead on countback with two girls sharing second place, one of whom was Grace Thompson from Oban.

This high jump win spurred Jodie on as only a few hours later she won a silver medal in the long jump – reaching a new personal best of 4.83metres with her first attempt.

Jodie was delighted with her two medals, which more than made up for her disappointment the night before when she had difficulty with her run-up in the triple jump.

Jilly Lefebvre, a former member of the Mid Argyll club but now living in and competing for North Ayrshire Athletics Club, won the under-15s high jump, clearing an impressive 1.54metres. Jilly was the Scottish champion in the high jump in the under-13 age group in August 2016 and is making great progress with her new club.
