Dip and dine at swimming pool
LOCHGILPHEAD swimmers can now combine a dip with a bite of lunch.
MACPool has been awarded funding from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland to run Dip and Dine - a scheme open to Mid Argyll residents aged over 50.
The project will be run in partnership with the local British Red Cross Transport Department and the Lochgilphead Parish Church drop-in café to maximize local resources and is offered as a free service.
As part of the Dip and Dine experience, the British Red Cross will collect participants by mini bus from their homes and bring them to the pool for a gentle, instructor-led cardiovascular workout session in the pool.
The Red Cross driver then collects and drops off at the Parish Church for a light lunch before taking everyone home. No prior swimming experience is required.
The first block will run on Wednesdays from May 21 until July 5 and a second block will begin in October.
Benefit
MACPool already runs many classes in the pool, however, this session would particularly benefit people without transport who perhaps feel slightly excluded.
Graham Love, MACPool manager, said: ‘This is a great example of the third sector working together for the benefit of the community.
Involved
‘We are encouraging people to get involved in this new programme designed to deliver a lot of benefits.
‘This scheme is our latest offering and is part of our health and well-being programme, which aims to increase access to physical activity opportunities for everyone.’
