Pedal power to help families of sick children

-

LOCHGILPHEAD fundraiser Michael Harvey is dusting down his saddle to raise funds for a charity that helps families with children in hospital.

Michael is hoping to raise awareness and funds for Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow by taking on the challenge of completing the Edinburgh Night Ride, starting on Saturday June 17. The 50-mile cycle route will take him up, over, down and around Edinburgh, starting early evening and continuing through the night.

Michael is looking forward to getting his legs back in motion again after two years since his previous charity ride.

‘The more money I can raise,’ Michael added, ‘the better my “power pistons” will be at pedalling. The organisers have promised panoramic views on the night ride but I’m just hoping I’ll not be seeing stars.’

Situated in the grounds of the hospital’s campus, Ronald McDonald House allows families to stay close to their sick child during what can often be an incredibly difficult and emotional time.

The Ronald McDonald House is of personal importance to Michael as his daughter works there and the family has previously had to use its services. In praising the work of the staff, Michael said: ‘If you can spare any amount at all, it really would mean so much to me and, of course, to the many wonderful families who will benefit from our support.’

Michael is looking to reach his fundraising target of £500 before Saturday. Anyone can donate via Michael Harvey’s JustGiving page, justgiving.com/ fundraising/m-harvey6.
