Karate trio show spirit

-

THREE members of the Lochgilphead Kyokushinkai Karate Club travelled to Oban on Saturday to undergo a stern test of ability and spirit.

The test itself was fol- lowed by a minimum of 10 two-minute full contact fights for the adults going for first dan blackbelts, with 10 lighter contact fights for the juniors.

Those testing for higher black belt grades had more fights to complete before passing.

Wallace Simpson completed 16 twominute full contact fights in a row against fresh opponents.

Jacob Adair passed his junior Shodan (first degree black belt), Mhairi Weldon passed her Shodan (first degree black belt), while Wallace Simpson passed his Sandan (third degree black belt).

The new grades come with new titles within the karate world and so Jacob and Mhairi are now senpai (senior) and Wallace now changes from senpai to sensei (teacher).

Lochgilphead club instructor Iain Rodger said: ‘I am very proud of these three to have come through the grading test in the way they did, they showed great spirit and determination throughout.’
