CONSTRUCTION is almost complete on the first stage of building a new pedestrian link at the head of Loch Fyne.

FIRST phase of construction of a path between Clachan and Cairndow is nearing completion.

The project, led by Cairndow community enterprise Here We Are, seeks to better connect residents in the area by building a new path from round the head of Loch Fyne. Once fully completed, the path will create a safe pedestrian walkway from Loch Fyne Oysters in Clachan all the way to Cairndow.

Celine McIntyre, director at Here We Are and co-ordinator of the path project, explained: ‘A couple of years ago the community got together and formed an action plan, pulling everyone together. Top of the list was a pedestrian link between Cairndow and Clachan as there is no way to get from one to the other without a car or public transport. Right now, it’s a problem for people who work in Clachan but live in Cairndow.’

Here We Are took on the project and secured funding from the Clachan wind farm fund and Scottish Natural Heritage to build the path. With full designs drawn up and all the necessary land agreements confirmed, the team is keen to get on with the next phase of construction.

Celine continued:

‘The first phase is just about finished but ultimately getting the next part of the path built to Cairndow is the big priority. We’ve got full designs ready and hope to get work under way soon. The landowners have been very supportive and have been great in getting behind us.’

The Here We Are team is now just waiting to secure the necessary funding to proceed with the next phase of construction to complete the pathway.
