SWI celebrates centenary in style

-

Sir, The Stonefield Castle Hotel was the venue as 50 ladies of the Mid Argyll group of the SWI gathered to celebrate 100 years of the organisation.

Throughout Scotland ladies were meeting for afternoon tea par- ties, garden parties and other activities to acknowledge the camaraderie they have all shared throughout their years of membership.

On Sunday July 2, ladies were invited from Tarbert, Lochgilphead, Ford and Kilmichael – and it was lovely to see ladies from Minard and Tayvallich who sadly do not have their own institute any longer.

We also had one far-travelled guest from Cumbria and others, not quite so far away, from Dalmally and Glasgow.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the chat and the sharing of stories not only about ‘the Rural’, but also catching up on their family news.

Our ages range from 10 to 90, so we are sure any prospective members will find something to interest them at our meetings.

The only downside was the weather! We intended to have some time on the terrace but rain put an end to that and instead the hotel made us extremely comfortable in the library and drawing room. This was an added bonus as the majority of ladies had donned their finery and “big hats” were the order of the day.

Meetings start again in September and information can be found on Facebook or by watching out for news in the Argyllshire Advertiser in late August.
