MacNab claims fourth title

-

GLENRALLOCH played host to the final two rounds of the Tarbert Golf Club Club Championship last weekend. After 24 hours of solid rain, the course was in danger of becoming unplayable on Saturday. However, it is a testament to the condition of the course that only two greens were under some water.

Given the weather, scoring was on the high side. Bruce MacNab managed a solid 71 to extend his lead by a further seven shots, while Iain Macalister and John MacNab shot 78. Best net scores from Saturday were father and son Iain Johnstone with junior on 67 and senior on 68.

Sunday could not have been more different with a lovely sunny day and a strong westerly wind. Scoring was much better with the best net scores coming from Iain MacArthur who started his back nine with three birdies and finished with 65. Chris Smyth played more like his old self, finishing on 66 and Kenny MacFarlane on 67. Best scratch scores were Bruce MacNab on 71 and Iain Macalister on 74.

An extremely delighted Bruce MacNab retained the Sam Andrews Challenge Cup, his fourth championship with a winning total of 274. Second place went to Iain Macalister on 296 and third was John MacNab on 307.

Senior champion and John Reid Quaich winner was Iain Macalister, as John MacNab the runner-up and Duncan Johnstone finishing as senior net champion.
