Great start to Inveraray Youth Project

-

A TREAT for music lovers took place in Inveraray last Thursday evening.

Some of the most talented young people in Argyll took to the stage at the Inveraray Inn for an evening of music to raise funds for a new youth project in the Royal Burgh.

As an appetiser, Mid Argyll Pipe Band stirred the blood with a performance in pleasant sunshine on the front green outside the hotel.

Compere Alastair Galbraith then got the evening under way and it was the pipe band that marched into the function room to open proceedings – ringing the rafters with some nice sets a week before they head for the World Pipe Band Championships.

Things took a quieter turn when eight-yearold Feorlin Renton gave an accomplished rendition of a poem The Looth Tooth before singing beautifully for the 50-strong audience.

Multi-talented Lochgilphead girl Tiegan Holroyd, Ardrishaig’s Eve Maxwell (with her fantastic voice) and the hauntingly beautiful singing of Holly Renton of Inveraray followed as a hugely entertaining evening unfolded.

As well as offering beautiful music on the flute, Tiegan played the pipes in the pipe band and sang in duet with Holly as their delicate voices blended perfectly.

The evening was a great start to a worthwhile project which is due to open for business around the autumn.

Organiser Margaret Renton said: ‘A heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in making an evening of music such an enjoyable one.

‘Music is certainly alive and kicking in Mid Argyll and thanks are extended to all the musicians, music teachers, parents and carers, the Inveraray Inn, our excellent compere Alastair Galbraith, Emma and Niamh Rodden for manning the door and raffle, and of course everyone who came along to support the event.

‘I am pleased to say that the evening raised £273.32 for the youth project which will provide a weekly place for the youngsters of Inveraray and the surrounding area to socialise and learn, work together and develop new skills.’
