Dancing Dookers in summer show
LAST WEEK, London’s dazzling West End came to Tarbert when some of its youngsters took part in Dancing Dookers’ Summer School.
Over four days, they had the chance to learn songs, dance routines and scripts from famous musicals such as Matilda, Singin’ in the Rain and Mary Poppins, before putting on a show to remember.
The classes were led by Rachael MacFarlane, a former pupil of Tarbert Academy who now lives and works in London, teaching and performing after training in musical theatre at CTA Performing Arts London drama school. She was assisted by Grace Graham, who is currently training in musical theatre at Salem State University in Massachusetts.
Rachael commented: ‘When choreographing my routines and planning the classes, I worried that perhaps I’d been a little ambitious with the amount of material I had prepared for them but they all took to it so well and performed brilliantly in their show.
‘I was beyond impressed that they had pulled it off with such little rehearsal time, true professionals who most certainly acted and looked the part.’
She added: ‘I am so pleased with all the positive feedback I have received and I’m just so glad they all enjoyed it and got so much out of it.
‘My main aim is to help build confidence and give them new exciting opportunities so I hope I managed to achieve that. I’m looking forward to planning the next classes so keep a look out for them on Facebook. Newcomers are all welcome too.’
