Gilp golfers tee off for fundraising comp
LAST weekend at Lochgilphead Golf Club there was fierce competition in the MacAulay Fundraising Competitions.
While the gents played for the MacAulay Cup, the ladies battled it out for the MacAulay Rosebowl. Both trophies were donated many years ago by Alex and Jenny MacAulay and members play for these, giving a donation as an entry fee, which is passed on to Robin House in Balloch, operated by CHAS.
There was a great turnout and the gents’ competition winner was David MacKinnon, beating Ryan McGlynn by two points to win with a superb 38 points.
The ladies had a lovely afternoon and Ele Hunter was the delighted winner, beating Donna McKellar by one stroke to win with 67 strokes.
The junior championship was scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of this week but unfortunately, due to the torrential rain on Monday, it had to be changed to a one-round competition on Tuesday only.
Despite this, there was a good turn-out of juniors ready to brave the soggy conditions and the standard of play was excellent.
The new Lochgilphead junior champion is Gregor McGeachy, who won the scratch trophy with 76 strokes, beating Henry Palmer by three shots. And the winner of the stableford trophy with 43 points was Harry Turner.
This weekend the club is hosting the TW Scaffolding tri-am and there are limited tee times available so if you want to play pop in to the clubhouse without delay.
