West coast set to shine at Best of the West Festival

-

BEST of the West (BoW) festival will kick off at Inveraray Castle this weekend, Friday September 8.

In its seventh year, the festival has been described as Scotland’s finest boutique festival, with visitors coming from all over to celebrate the best music, food and drink in the country.

With a line-up of 21 different musical acts, the event has been extended to three days and also finishes later in the evening due to high demand.

The festival will see Tiree band Skipinnish headlining on Friday, a six-piece musical act whose claim to fame is overtaking Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran in the UK charts. Supporting Skipinnish on Friday are Cowal band Heron Valley who have played all seven BoW festivals, climbing up the play list to become this years supporting headliners.

Saturday’s headliners Skerryvore also hail from Tiree. Formed in 2005, they were voted Live Act of the Year at last year’s Scottish Traditional Music Awards. With six albums released since their formation, the band have a host of songs ready for the crowd at Best of the West.

Supporting Skerryvore on Saturday night are Blazin’ Fiddles, from the Highlands and islands, complete with fiddlers and accordion players for a unique style. Eddi Reader takes to the stage as Sunday’s headliner. Her mix of contemporary and traditional is sure to rock the festival.

Supporting Eddi is the Highland and islands four-piece band Tide Lines, who overtook both Beyonce and Coldplay with their single ‘Far Side of the World’.

The festival also aims to showcase Argyll’s wealth of produce to the world, with several renowned food and drink stalls.

There is lots of choice at BoW; from Loch Fyne Oyster Bar to Aye Love Scotch Eggs, there will be something for everyone.

Some of Argyll’s very own celebrity chefs will also be cooking up a storm, producing their signature dishes on Saturday and Sunday.

A new prize is also available for the best stand, supported by property consultants Bidwells.
