Dalmally is fitting end to show season
DAVID McPHEE dmcphee@obantimes.co.uk THE LAST and possibly the largest show of the summer calendar took place on Saturday – Dalmally Agricultural Show.
The field was packed with people and even the sun managed to make an appearance.
Spectators were spoiled for choice – whether it was the judging of the com- mercial cattle, Highland cattle, Blackface sheep in the mart, the pipe band playing, shinty games, bird shows, wood working or the famous terrier race. Children had plenty to choose from as bouncy castles and fun-fair styled stalls surrounded the field.
Show organisers said: ‘A huge thank you to all our volunteers, competitors, sponsors, stall-holders, and to everyone who came along to support this year’s Dalmally Show – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.’
The overall cattle champion belonged to Douglas MacDonald of Tyree, Benderloch. He said: ‘It’s not easy doing it, so [the win] is very nice and it’s good to keep the young ones interested.’
The over-all winner in the native or continental sheep category was won by a Cheviot tup owned by Iain MacKay from Luss and the champion Blackface sheep was won by Sandy Patterson from Auchloy near Crieff.
Another star of the show belonged to Iain McKay, Appin. His one-year-old terrier was crowned best in show.
When asked how he felt afterwards, he said: ‘Brilliant. The wife will be happy.’
Oban and District Classic Car Club had 14 cars on show.
‘We managed to recruit two new members,’ said Kevin Devine club chairman.
