Victoria joins tourism board

-

ARGYLL and the Isles Tourism Co-operative (AITC) welcomed a new director on to the board – but said goodbye to a longstanding board member.

Victoria Winters will represent the Heart of Argyll Tourism Alliance, covering an area from Tarbert in the south to Loch Craignish in the north, and from Crinan in the west to Inveraray in the east.

Victoria, co-founder of a management consultancy, moved to Mid Argyll with her husband Dr John Hall and cat Aslan in 2013.

One of the deciding factors on moving here was the proximity to water, and Victoria can often be spotted kayaking between Minard and Lochgair, or on her little motor-sailer.

Victoria is on the committee of the Friends of Crarae and runs a self-catering holiday cottage from her home.

AITC chairman Calum Ross said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Victoria to the AITC board at this exceptionally busy time for the organisation.

Adventures

‘Coming with both a business and tourism background, Victoria’s knowledge and experience will be a valuable addition to AITC.

‘I’m also looking forward to hearing more about her Wild About Argyll adventures on the water.’

Victoria’s appointment follows the resignation of director Andrew Wilson. Andrew, who was one of the original AITC directors, leaves after five years on the board.

Calum paid tribute to Andrew’s contribution, saying: ‘Andrew has been on the board from early in the life of AITC and has been a great support over the years. He has represented us on the Argyll and the Isles Coast and Countryside Trust and progressed a number of local initiatives. I would like to wish him the best of luck for the future.’

AITC is now gearing up for a very busy autumn and winter period as the team sets to work focusing its attention on adventure tourism, events and festivals, and food and drink tourism.

The tourism co-operative is running a programme of mini autumn summits, and the team will all be together in Oban’s Argyllshire Gathering on November 7 for tourism day, part of Argyll Enterprise Week.
