Memorial service to be held at All Saints, Inveraray

-

AN ANNUAL memorial service for all those who died in World War I will be held at All Saints, Inveraray, by the bell tower on Saturday November 11 at 12.30pm.

A half muffled quarter peal will be rung by the Scottish Association of change prior to the service. The St Maura Singers will also be perfoming Wm Byrd’s Mass in three parts to accompany the bells.

The Rev Canon Simon Mackenzie said: ‘We invite both locals and visitors to this beautiful and poign- ant service. ‘Do this in memory of me’ is the command we follow.

‘Memory is important, but only if we learn from the past. Today’s politicians are far too quick to turn to blame and Jingoism. That is the path to disaster. The past demands clear sight from us. To see, to understand, to weep, to pray, to forgive.

‘That means to resolve never again to turn to war; to make those who were once our enemies our friends; and to say nothing that could harm another.’
