In­ver­aray Cas­tle set for celebri­ties and clas­sic cars

THE IN­AU­GU­RAL Ar­gyll Fes­ti­val of Per­for­mance will see a host of clas­sic cars, mem­o­ro­bilia and celebri­ties de­scend on In­ver­aray.

The fes­ti­val will run on June 2-3 next year at In­ver­aray Cas­tle, and will see a num­ber of big names in at­ten­dance in­clud­ing Sir Chris Hoy, Ewan McGre­gor, Amy Mac­don­ald and Sir Billy Con­nolly.

An­nounc­ing the de­tails of the fes­ti­val, The Duke of Ar­gyll said: ‘We are de­lighted to be able to host the in- au­gu­ral Ar­gyll Fes­ti­val of Per­for­mance here at In­ver­aray Cas­tle.

‘With such an iconic lo­ca­tion in the very heart of Ar­gyll, the dra­matic land­scape and set­ting I hope will draw peo­ple from far and wide for a very spe­cial week­end.’

The theme for 2018 will be ‘Scots in For­mula 1’ with or­gan­is­ers plan­ning on hav­ing a num­ber of his­toric ve­hi­cles on dis­play within the cas­tle grounds.

The fes­ti­val will also show­case an auc­tion of clas­sic ve­hi­cles and mem­o­ra­bilia and more than 200 clas­sic cars will be on dis­play.

Event direc­tor, Bill Telford said: ‘Scot­land has an en­vi­able rep­u­ta­tion in mo­tor­sport but, as yet, there has never been an event that cel­e­brates this suc­cess.

Theme

‘The Ar­gyll Fes­ti­val of Per­for­mance has been cre­ated to do just that with a theme each year to re­ally al­low the sto­ries to be told.

‘In year one, it will be For­mula 1, and Scot­land boasts some of the big­gest names in the sport from the leg­endary Jim Clark and Jackie Ste­wart, to mul­ti­ple race win­ners like David Coulthard, and of course, lo­cal star, Susie Wolff, who was the first fe­male to be in­volved in an F1 week­end in 22 years at the Bri­tish Grand Prix in 2014.

‘It’s not just driv­ers who have played their part, Scot­tish en­gi­neers, de­sign­ers and man­u­fac­tur­ers have also made a huge im­pact on the world of mo­tor­sport and we be­lieve the time is right to cel­e­brate all of those achieve­ments.’
