Inveraray CARS scheme completed

-

INVERARAY’S Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) has been completed with the scaffolding coming down from the final priority building at Arkland.

The major work at Arkland and Relief Land involved repairing chimney stacks, slating and lead work. The cracked cement render within the property was replaced with traditional lime harl which will help dry out the buildings.

Other projects have been completed at the Town House, Chamberlain’s House and the Old Temperance Hotel.

An Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said: ‘These projects have been grant funded through CARS by Historic Environment Scotland and the council. The projects were made possible by the hard work of the owners’ associations, Argyll Community Housing Association and their agent as well as the council’s project staff. The work was carried out by Laing Traditional Masonry.

‘The scheme will continue until March 2018, with the focus of the final year being on supporting community engagement initiatives and traditional skills training events.’
