Mid Argyll Athletics Club take on Argyll Series

MID ARGYLL Athletics will compete in the Argyll series of sports hall athletics, held on Sunday January 21 at Lochgilphe­ad Joint Campus.

The event kicks off at midday with entries accepted from 11.30am and costs £2 per competitor and £5 for families of three or more.

Six age groups starting from under seven up to under 17 can take part in the competitio­n, with seven different running, jumping and throwing events.

Everyone who takes part will receive a medal, and trophies will be awarded to the overall winners in each age group.

The competitio­n is also an opportunit­y for youngsters to come and try athletics for the first time taking part indoors, in a dry environmen­t.

The Mid Argyll competitio­n is the first of four local area competitio­ns to be held in Argyll between January and March.

Atlantis

After the Mid Argyll competitio­n will be the Mull event on Saturday February 3 at Salen Primary School followed by the Oban area competitio­n at Atlantis on Wednesday February 28.

The Kintyre area competitio­n is planned for Sunday March 4 and will be held in the Victoria Hall in Campbeltow­n

The best athletes from the four local events will then progress to take part in the Argyll final, held at Atlantis Leisure in Oban on Sunday March 25.

Teams will also be selected at the Mid Argyll event for the national under 12 superteams competitio­n at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Sunday February 11.

Mid Argyll Athletics plan to enter boys’ and girls’ teams to the competitio­n in Glasgow, and the qualifying age is any child born between September 1 2006 and February 11 2009.
